The Ebro River, the longest in Catalunya/Spain, is 13 km away. The village of L’Ampolla lies directly along the sea. It is the last town before the large plain of the Ebro Delta, with its extensive rice fields and nature reserves. Next to the small harbour, there are some restaurants, supermarkets and bars.

Around the house is a hilly landscape, which is mainly planted with olive trees. In the background, you can see the sea and the mountain range of the large nature park, Els ports. By the sea, there is a hiking trail that connects L’Ampolla with the neighboring village of L’Ametlla de Mar to the north. The path (GR92) runs about 15 km along the sea with its red rocks and small sand and stone coves.

Walking southward along the coast, you will find a completely different landscape. After the long sandy beach, parts of which stay relatively uncrowded even in high season, you will find several paths leading into the rice fields and the plain of the Ebro Delta. The Ebro Delta is known for its large number of water birds, including flamingos.

It is possible to rent kayaks on the Ebro, or to go hiking in the mountains of the Els Ports nature park.

The next largest town is Tortosa, which can be reached by train from L’Ampolla. It has a small old town and lies directly on the Ebro. From there, the Via Verde, a long cycle route, starts inland. There are also several other bike trails near La Bassa Mar.

Additional information on activities in the surrounding area will be available at the house.

Environmental responsibility

Due to climate change, our region is increasingly impacted by severe droughts in the summer. Therefore, it is essential for everyone at La Bassa to save water, both for ecological responsibilities and for ensuring the sustainability of access to water for groups throughout the year. We encourage everyone to not take showers every day and to limit the duration of each shower. We also install buckets in the shower and bathtub to collect water that can be then used to flush. We limit the amount of washing machines, and always coordinate it with the whole group.

We compost organic trash and limit kitchen waste to a minimum.

We are also in the long process of regenerating the terrain by removing the earth, fertilising and spreading seeds of native plants (unfortunately it was treated with herbicides and pesticides before we got here). We welcome any visitor with knowledge of permaculture and land revitalization, who would like to contribute their know-how.

Every year, towards October, we organize a collective olive harvest, and produce small amounts of olive oil. We also harvest our carob trees.

Get in touch

If you are interested in using our space or collaborating with us to create a program, please email us at info@bassa-mar.org or click ‘CONTACT US’ to send a message using our contact form

CONTACT US

",
